DANDELION´s partner, Georgios Kolliarakis from Goethe University Frankfurt, is representing the project at the event “Science and Policy Making: towards a new dialogue” (#EUINGSA16), which is currently taken place in Brussels from 29 to 30 of September 2016.

Mairead McGuinness, Vice-president of EU parliament, stressed in her video that while there is abundance of every sort of information, there is a lot to be done to improve communication between scientist and policy makers, the latter are clearly in need of advice for better legislation.

Flavia Schlegel, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, pointed the need for enabling and constraining ecosystems for the uptake of evidence from research.

Jacques Lukasik, Secretary General EU council of academies of applied sciences, criticized the gap between researchers and general public, which undermines trust both in science and policy making.

Pearl Dykstra, High Level Group of EC’s Scientific Advisors, said researchers need to earn their authority in controversial, politically polarized policy issues.  

Daniel Sarewitz from Arizona State University stressed that when there are disputed values, complex situations and urgent decisions, no simple (technological) solutions can be effective
